How do I find the trial data for my NL candidates?

Data for different crops is accessible from different Data Handling Operators for those applicants with varieties in trials by contacting Louise@bspb.co.uk or Jeremy@bspb.co.uk who will be able to advise if access is permitted or to arrange access for you.

Where are the trials located this year?

Variety List (VL) trial matrices for each crop are published in the appendices of the current VCU VL Procedures for each crop and can be accessed via clicking here

What quality testing is carried out on winter barley, winter wheat, etc?

Both statutory Variety List (VL) testing for all VL candidates (limited quality testing), and most additional end user testing (Bread Biscuit, BCE, Micro malting) for VL applications requested by the applicants is organised by BSPB. All quality testing incurs a charge in addition to the trials fees.

Can I attend the BSPB breeder tours?

Breeder tours are organised for Oilseed Rape, Maize and Herbage each year, and any applicant who has an Variety List (VL) candidate or Recommended List (RL) variety in test may attend. Details are circulated each year to all applicants. Most breeder tours are over 2 days.

Where do I find the fees for VCU?

The fees are published on the BSPB website to provide an indication of the fees for different crops and tests, and can be found here.

Where do I find the NL application entry details and seed submission dates?

All application dates and seed submission deadlines are published on the Gov.uk website and can be found via clicking closing dates and any queries directly to APHA for specific crops may be found via clicking contacts

How do I know if a variety is on the UK National List?

To check if a variety is on the UK Variety List of GB and NI you will need to search the latest on-line Special Gazette where all varieties for all species not derogated are listed. Individual monthly gazettes will show current applications/deletions from the Variety List and Plant Breeders Rights.
